The Snuggle Spell

I flipped through the pages of the old tome, feeling a growing sense of excitement as I took in the incredible secrets held within. Magic books like this were extraordinarily rare and finding even one which contained a few minor spells would have been a truly remarkable stroke of luck, but this was something else altogether! This was a TRUE grimoire, a volume of arcane lore archived by a master of the craft!

Leola was the only practising witch I knew, and she had always been careful with who she taught her secrets to. Despite repeated requests, the lioness had always turned down my offers to become her apprentice, claiming magic was not a toy to be played with. She always said I lacked the discipline required to safely use the mystical powers she wielded, and repeatedly warned me not to dig into secrets I was not meant to know. But she couldn’t stop me from rummaging through backyard sales or searching the backrooms of old book shops looking for affordable collections of arcane knowledge.

Maybe she just assumed I’d never actually find anything. It was a fair assumption to make, really. Even after months of searching, I had barely found more than a few handwritten spells whose inconsequential nature would have made them unappealing even without the ludicrous price tags attached to them. True magic came at a premium, and even scraps were valued far more highly than I could afford to invest in.

Then I found the book.

It was by pure chance I discovered it, a spur of the moment grab of an unmarked diary whose aged leather binding had caught my eye. I had hoped I would open it to find enough blank paper to justify purchasing the thing as my own personal journal, and had been disappointed at first to find it full of handwritten notes and crude diagrams. I nearly closed it then and there, but the sight of a familiar runic symbol caught my eye - and I realized with a start that the page was describing the alchemical properties of dragon's blood! Turning to the next page I found an ingredients list for the preparation of a fertility potion, and next to it, a quickly scrawled additional warning about the unexpected aphrodisiac effect it also prompted.

There could be no doubt then that this book was not only a depository of mystical knowledge, but one created BY a practical mage!

I wasted no time in buying the book then, afraid someone might notice what I had found and attempt to alert the owners so they could jack up the price accordingly. Having thus escaped with only a few dollars withdrawn from my bank, I ran to my car and began to flip through the diary as soon as the door had closed and locked. I knew it was foolish, but I had to find a simple spell, one I could try without preparation or an overabundance of skill, just to confirm the authenticity of my treasured find.

“Let me see…” I muttered as spell after spell crossed before my eyes. “Gender Alteration? That’s perfect! Oh wait, it has to work in tandem with another spell… Well that’s fine, I just need one other spell from this! Now what else do we have… Animal Magnetism? Oh no, not that! Intellect Drain? Why would I ever want to use that on myself? Turn Yourself Into A Penis? Okay, what sort of mage would ever come up with spells like these!?” I sighed. “Of course I’d find a book of magic spells only for it to have been the work of a wildly kinky fetishist!” I flipped one last page and then moved to close the book when I happened to notice the title of the last incantation. “The Snuggle Spell? Well, that sounds… Less creepy.”

I read over the instructions for the magic and felt my lowered hopes rise again at the simplicity of the magic. Moreover, unlike most of the other entries, this one seemed entirely wholesome!

“For comfort and non-sexual nighttime companionship.” I read aloud. “A wonderful spell, perfect for after a long and stressful day. Easy to cast and great with friends. Best used an hour before resting and with a trusted mage as an assistant.” I frowned a little at the last line, then shrugged. “Well, it is getting late... I don’t have assistants, but if I can pull this off, maybe I can show off to Leola to show her what I managed without her! Yeah, and then she’ll have no choice but to admit I’m ready to learn!”

It seemed like a solid plan, so without hesitation I began to follow the instructions within the book, careful to mimic each command phrase and hand motion exactly while adding the modifications required from my first discovery where appropriate. Soon enough I felt the giddy thrill of magic coalescing around me, filling my car with a soft, pinkish light which grew stronger the further into the spell I went. Soon the light was all around me and I could feel its warmth on my skin, a soothing sensation like the rubbing of skilled hands massaging all of my aching muscles. It was little surprise that the mysterious writer had suggested the spell as a night time relaxer, the whole experience was like getting an expert massage for free!

The feelings became more pleasurable as the magic coalesced around my chest and groin. The small breasts hormones had given me swelled, and between my legs a very large irritant was at last given the message that its services were no longer required. I reached down and shivered in delight as I felt something moist and open where before only a pair of discomforting appendages had been.

Unfortunately it was not until the spell had concluded and the light faded that I noticed that something else had been done by the magic. Looking down at my relaxed body, I felt my face flush scarlet at the sight of my chest completely uncovered! While the sight of healthily sized breasts on my chest was something I had long wished for, seeing them bare here and now was not! Especially as they were, well, a lot pinker than they should have been. Not only that, but the rest of my body had also been completely stripped of clothes and given a similar color treatment, human skin replaced by shades of pink and purple with the odd red marking.

Between that, my face seeming to extend far further than it should have, and the enormous shark tail which had somehow escaped my notice even while pushing me uncomfortably from my seat, it wasn’t hard to realize the spell had - for some reason - turned me into my own fursona!

Being an anthromorph was hardly the worst fate in the world - they were after all an uncommon, but not rare sight these days - but they still tended to draw attention. Attention which, while nude and sitting in a public parking lot, I CERTAINLY didn’t want!

Panicking, I searched for my keys, but as they had been in my pants pocket, they too had vanished without a trace! What was worse, as I looked about, my hands seemed to press strangely into the seat and glove compartment, bending and deforming as they pressed into the hard material before rapidly reforming when withdrawn. It didn’t hurt, but the sight of my flesh acting so strangely was more than enough to push my already panicked mind into full blown fight or flight mode! Without thinking I pushed my soft body out of the car and began to run naked in the direction of the only person who might know what had happened to me and how to fix it.

Leola lived not far from the book store and in a fairly quiet neighborhood. For that, I could not be more grateful... No sooner had I begun to run, I noticed that my squishy body was having more and more trouble keeping up a good pace. At the best of times, this would have been an annoyance, but while stripped bare and with only an old book and my shark’s tail to cover my modesty, it was hard to imagine a worse time to be sluggish! I wasn’t sure if anyone saw me as I fled, but if they did, I am sure they would have had trouble figuring out just what it was they were seeing. At first, they might have recognized me for what I was, a purple naked shark woman awkwardly running down the street with a book pressed to her chest and legs which seemed to wobble more than her bosom. However soon enough they would have assumed that their initial impression must have been mistaken, for surely it wasn’t a full grown woman they were seeing, but some form of diminutive half woman. Not a child or little person - rather, someone who still bore the proportions of an adult in most ways, but whose rounded shape and reduced size would appear more at home in a cartoon rather than reality. And that impression too would seem utterly at odds with the view anyone who saw me arrive at Leola’s home would surely report.

By the time I stumbled into the mage’s seemingly enormous door, I was barely more than a foot and a half tall. My arms and legs could hardly move on their own and it was all I could do to keep from dropping the book as I threw myself at the entryway as hard as I was able. Unfortunately even my most aggressive shoulder slams produced no more than a faint knock and budged the barrier not an inch.

It was, I assume, purely luck then that the lioness had been passing by when I tapped for just as I felt the last of my strength leave me and fell motionless to the ground, the door was opened and a voice from high above called out, “Hello? Is anyone there?” Suddenly the face of Leola loomed over me and a large hand reached down to pick up the book first, then myself, carrying us both as easily as one might a doll. “I guess April must have just dropped this off and left.”

I tried to call out to Leola that I had not gone anywhere, but no words came from my soft, immobile snout. Instead I was brushed off and then set on the mage’s table while she looked over my book. There on the table I caught a glimpse of myself in a nearby mirror, and would have gasped if I could have! My whole body had been robbed of even the faintest traces of human shape, flopping loosely onto its front, legs splayed out. I was round and soft, especially my arms and legs, which now formed thick, plush tubes ending in paw print designs. I’d had hands before, still mostly-human ones, but apparently the magic had decided that that would not have been humiliatingly adorable enough and so had taken even that from me! Naturally, the only parts of me which had retained some discernible shape were those which I had unintentionally given myself, for my shark's tail and fin had translated almost perfectly to my new form. I was completely covered in purple fur and marked with red stripes - a perfect, adorable shark plushie!

I realized with growing unease that as I was now, it would be difficult to impossible for even Leola to recognize who I was unless she happened to find the part of the book I had been reading.

Fortunately all this time Leola had been poring over the pages of the journal with an increasingly astonished look on her face until she finally cried out in jubilation. “Where did this get off to? I thought I lost it years ago! April…” She looked from the book to me and for a moment I felt my heart soar as I thought I saw recognition spark in her eyes. Then my hopes were dashed as she laughed, “Oh that sweet girl, she must have found it and decided to return it along with this adorable gift! That was so thoughtful of her!” She ducked and slid the diary back onto her shelf, not bothering to look at the slightly dog eared page I had left for her to find which might have revealed what had happened. “I might have misjudged her about being ready to learn magic.” She shook her head. “I just assumed she'd cast one of these potentially irreversible spells and get herself stuck as something awful, but instead she went ahead and did the right thing by bringing it back to me! And with such an adorable present too!”

Potentially irreversible!? The book hadn’t said ANYTHING about that possibility, but then again, Leola could be extremely unclear with her warnings. Had I known she had been the mysterious writer, I would have been much, MUCH more careful! But now I was stuck, unable to even confirm if this curse could be undone even IF the lioness became aware of what had occurred!

Ignorant to the fearful thoughts which swirled in my head, Leola just smiled and picked me back up, looking at me with an expression which I wasn’t sure I knew how to feel about.

“Well my cute little toy, I’ll be sure to put you to good use! I’ve never been one to look a gift shark in the mouth after all.” She turned on her heel, rubbing my soft head as she walked back towards her bed. “And I know just what to do with you too! I cannot wait to add you to my collection!”

The End
